STATEMENT OF SENATOR WIN GATCHALIAN ON UNENERGIZED PUBLIC SCHOOLS

I am urging the National Electrification Administration to fast-track the electrification of the 1,500 last-mile schools that remain unenergized. When schools lack access to electricity, they struggle to provide learners with a conducive environment for studying and miss out on the opportunities offered by digital education. If we are to help our learners improve their performance, we must ensure that they are comfortable and safe in their school facilities.

Under the 2025 national budget, P1.295 billion has been allotted for the electrification of unenergized schools. The allocation also covers the modernization of electrical systems in on-grid schools, including the upgrading of existing electrical power systems, the purchase and installation of appropriate transformers, and the purchase and installation of solar power systems, among other initiatives. It is crucial that we utilize these funds effectively as we work towards achieving total electrification for all our schools.
