The Fourth Division of the Sandiganbayan granted Senator Win Gatchalian’s motion requesting permission to join the delegation of President Rodrigo Duterte on his state visit to the People’s Republic of China on October 18 to 21.
“I am honored to be part of this historic event in Philippine-Sino relations,” said Gatchalian, who will be joining the Philippine delegation in an observer capacity.
As Chairman of the Senate Committees on Energy and Economic Affairs, respectively, Gatchalian said he will use the unique insights gained during this trip to enhance the Senate’s legislative work in these key policy areas.
Gatchalian further emphasized the importance of the visit, which he sees as a pivotal moment in the Duterte administration’s push to establish an independent foreign policy.
“The Philippines and China have long had a complicated relationship. This trip serves as a golden opportunity to work out our differences, in pursuit of mutually beneficial policies which will foster cooperation and respect between our nations. I hope our countries can work together to promote peace and economic development in the region,” said Gatchalian.
