Following the opening of the 20th Congress, Senator Win Gatchalian refiled several proposed reform bills to address the country’s education crisis.
“Marami pa tayong mga repormang nais isulong upang masugpo ang krisis na kinakaharap ng ating bansa pagdating sa edukasyon. Sa pagbubukas ng 20th Congress, patuloy nating bibigyang prayoridad ang mga repormang mag-aangat sa kalidad ng edukasyon sa ating bansa,” said Gatchalian.
One of these measures is a bill that seeks to amend the Philippine Teachers Professionalization Act of 1994 (Republic Act No. 7836) to strengthen professional standards and the pool of qualified teachers.
Gatchalian also refiled the 21st Century School Boards Act to strengthen local government units’ involvement in improving the quality of education.
Another refiled measure seeks to amend the Adopt-a-School Act of 1998 (Republic Act No. 8525) and incentivize private sector involvement in the development of the country’s public education system.
Gatchalian also refiled a bill that seeks to institutionalize and strengthen the Arabic Language and Islamic Values Education (ALIVE) Program in all public and private basic education schools outside the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
