Valenzuela City Congressman Win Gatchalian joined the discussion on how to address the perennial problem of flood and inundation of cities in Metro Manila during Aksyon TV’s “De Kalibre” aired over TV5 this week.
Gatchalian, who served as three-term mayor in flood-prone Valenzuela City from 2004 to 2013, told TV program host and lawyer Dong Puno that local government unit should be aggressive in leading programs that would minimize occurrences of flood in their city.
Representing the first district of Valenzuela City in the House of Representatives now, Gatchalian also highlighted the importance of disaster preparedness in its role in mitigating flood across National Capital Region (NCR).
Defense Undersecretary Eduardo Del Rosario as well as Disaster Risk and Exposure for Mitigation (Dream) Programme Leader Eric Paringit also gave useful insights on how flood has impacted cities and barangays nationwide.
Del Rosario also serves as the executive director of National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, which is in charge of responding to various disasters like typhoons, earthquakes, and landslides that occur in the Philippines.
“De Kalibre” will air this particular discussion on flood at 8:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9.
