“The Department of Education should ensure that any shift to a trimester school calendar is anchored on clear, measurable objectives: improved learning outcomes and a more sustainable workload for our teachers. These must be firmly grounded in data and clearly articulated through a comprehensive consultation process with key stakeholders. A smooth transition plan should be in place considering that the proposed shift will be disruptive for our teachers and learners. It is also crucial to ensure that the new system will be coherent with the academic calendar of higher education institutions.
