“The recent announcement by Meralco of an electricity rate hike for the July billing cycle presents a heavy financial distress for millions of Filipino households and small business owners. Stringent ERC oversight is necessary to ensure that Meralco’s distribution charges are accurate and fair and that consumers are not charged arbitrarily.

The ERC should also ensure Meralco implements staggered increases of electricity rate hikes to shield consumers from price shocks. Dapat aktibong minomonitor at nakikipag-ugnayan ang ERC sa Meralco at mga generation company upang maipatupad ang unti-unting paniningil ng dagdag na singil.

Pangunahing pangangailangan ang kuryente, kaya’t dapat isaalang-alang ng Meralco at iba pang stakeholders hindi lang ang kanilang interes kundi, higit sa lahat, ang kapakanan ng mga konsyumer.”
