Gatchalian Backs Cebu Flood Control Probe; Sends Typhoon Aid

Senator Win Gatchalian has expressed support for the investigation into the ineffectiveness of flood control projects in Cebu province, following widespread flooding that submerged many areas during Typhoon Tino.

The senator made the statement while visiting several areas in the province. He witnessed firsthand the devastation in Talisay City, particularly in Purok Isla Verde and Sitio Bahala — two impoverished riverside communities that were among the hardest hit. The senator also visited the cities of Mandaue, Lapu-Lapu, and Cebu, where residents are still reeling from the typhoon’s wrath.

“Sana’y naiwasan ang tindi ng pinsalang dulot ng nagdaang mga bagyo kung mayroon lang sanang epektibong flood control projects,” said Gatchalian, who has also been monitoring anomalous and defective infrastructure projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways.

In collaboration with the Valenzuela City LGU and the Valenzuela DSWD, Gatchalian distributed sacks of rice amounting to ₱2.145 million and ₱2 million in cash assistance to 85,603 families across the affected cities. “Hangad ko ang agarang pagbangon ng ating mga kababayan sa Cebu. Tunay kong hinahangaan ang kanilang katatagan sa harap ng mga trahedyang tulad nito,” Gatchalian said. He was joined by Valenzuela City Councilors Ghogo Deato Lee and Mario San Andres.
