Gatchalian: Strengthening Services Key to Development, Sovereignty of Kalayaan Islands Group

Senator Win Gatchalian affirmed his commitment to boost essential services and long-term development following his recent visit to the Kalayaan Islands Group.

“We will prioritize health, governance, and education,” Gatchalian said, citing ongoing school construction and plans to further improve campus facilities. He also committed to building larger health centers and rehabilitating the long-unused municipal hall to strengthen local governance.

The senator likewise pledged support for the Philippine Coast Guard, particularly in sustaining its fuel requirements amid rising costs, recognizing its critical role in safeguarding the area.

Looking ahead, Gatchalian stressed that making the island livable is key to retaining residents. “Ang importante mga inhabitants, maging komportable at manatili dito permanently. At maging maginhawa at matiwasay ang kanilang paninirahan dito,” Gatchalian emphasized.

As Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, he added that his visit will guide funding allocations for the 2027 national budget.

Despite its size, Gatchalian underscored the island’s strategic importance. “Maliit na isla lang ito at konti ang naninirahan, pero ang island na ito carries the weight of our sovereignty. The presence of Filipinos here affirms our jurisdiction, and we must continue to protect and support them,” he said.
