Senator Win Gatchalian hailed the signing of the ‘Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act,’ Republic Act No. 12288 a landmark law that expands prospects for career paths in teaching and school administration.
“Mas malawak na ngayon ang mga oportunidad para sa ating mga public school teachers at school leaders dahil sa Career Progression System na pinagtibay ng batas,” said Gatchalian who sponsored the law.
Under the new law, the Career Progression System for public school teachers and leaders is institutionalized to promote their professional development and career advancement. The law mandates the Department of Budget and Management to create the new teaching position titles of Teacher IV, Teacher V, Teacher VI, Teacher VII, Master Teacher V, 4 Master Teacher VI, and School Principal V.
The Department of Education shall formulate clear guidelines on the promotion of teachers and school leaders. The law provides that promotions shall be non-hierarchical and based on the principles of merit, fitness, and competence based on qualifications and the professional standards.
