Konektadong Pinoy Bill Becomes Law; Gatchalian Vows to Empower Remote Filipinos

Senator Win Gatchalian said the enactment of the Konektadong Pinoy law is an important digital lifeline that is set to empower and transform the lives of Filipinos in far-flung areas.

“Connectivity is no longer a luxury, it’s a lifeline. This game-changing measure brings stable, affordable internet to underserved communities and powers up countryside development,” said Gatchalian, who co-authored and has championed the measure since the 17th Congress.

The law essentially removes regulatory barriers to encourage new, independent players to invest in the development of reliable, open data networks, he explained. In the education sector, for instance, the measure will enable students, regardless of their location, to access quality online learning resources and participate in distance education.

Promoting the entry of new players and investing in data infrastructure can address the high cost and slow speed of the internet that has hampered the growth and competitiveness of micro and small enterprises operating in the countryside.

“Affordable and stable internet access will enable our local entrepreneurs to effectively optimize operations and gain access to online marketplaces beyond their local barangay,” he added.
