Valenzuelanos learn how to earn a living using used wrappers

Got junk food and coffee wrappers?

If you have too many of them, don’t waste time throwing them in trash bin. You can just earn money by turning them into decorative items instead.

This is what 16 members from REX Ladies Federation have learned from participating in a training seminar, which taught them how to make strip foils out of used coffee sachets and junk food packaging on August 20 .

During the one-and-a-half-hour Strip Foil Making Training session held in Barangay Ugong, participants were taught how to create strip foils by cutting the foil wrappers into vertical strips.

Using these foil strips as weaving materials, the ladies were able to create decorative bags, wallets and wine bottle holders out of the strip foils.

Participants of the program said making strip foils can be a viable source of income since it does not need any monetary capital and can help minimize the amount of trash as it only uses junk food and coffee wrappers.

The strip foils can be sold for P5 each, and wallets, bags and bottle holder created out of it can be sold for P35 to P300.

The Strip Making training seminar was a project launched under Valenzuela City Congressman Sherwin “Win” Gatchalians’s WinTayo sa Kabuhayan program under its Kapitbahayan Para sa Kalikasan project.
