Gatchalian sponsors ‘First Aid’ training for 16 teenagers

To take advantage of energy and initiative of the youth, Valenzuela City Congressman Win Gatchalian sent 16 teenagers to train them in ‘first aid’ response and treatment from the Philippine Red Cross at the Valenzuela City Convention Center last November 10 and 11.

Gatchalian, one of the governors at the PRC, sponsored the ‘Junior First Aiders’ seminar that will train young residents of Barangay Malinta, Valenzuela City aged 14 to 20 on how to properly administer first aid assistance.
In the two-day seminar, participants underwent extensive lecture and training in giving immediate assistance to victims in case of accident or illness under the supervision of Red Cross volunteers and registered nurse Nathaniel Cano and Denver Llarenas.
Cano, who has been serving as a Red Cross volunteer in the last three years, said that learning the basic practices of delivering first aid assistance will enable the youth to become a frontliner in times of crisis.
A 15-year-old Kristine Joy Mendoza shared that the program enabled its youth participants to get first-hand experience which is crucial in learning how to give first aid assistance.
Aside from first aid training seminars, Gatchalian also conducted blood donation, wherein he collected over 4,000 units of blood drive during his campaign last April as part of the public programs launched in celebration of his 40th birthday.
Gatchalian has been a Red Cross member ever since his college days, and was awarded the ‘Silver Humanitarian Cross Award’ last January for his exemplary leadership and outstanding accomplishments that has contributed in the promotion of the PRC mission. (Camille Nepomuceno)
